How can air separation equipment adjust distillation conditions to increase oxygen production?

The air separation equipment adjusts the purity of liquid air and liquid nitrogen, and the distillation in the lower tower is the foundation of the upper tower. The change in the extraction amount of liquid air and liquid nitrogen will affect the purity of liquid air and liquid nitrogen, and also affect the reflux ratio of the upper tower distillation section.

If the amount of liquid nitrogen extracted is too small, although the nitrogen purity is high, providing too little reflux liquid to the distillation section will reduce the nitrogen purity. At this point, due to the low oxygen concentration in the liquid, it will cause a decrease in oxygen purity and a decrease in oxygen production. Therefore, the optimal distillation condition for the lower tower should be to increase the extraction amount as much as possible while ensuring that the liquid nitrogen purity meets the requirements. On the one hand, it provides more reflux liquid for the upper tower distillation section; On the other hand, it can increase the oxygen concentration in the liquid air, reduce the distillation burden on the upper tower, and thus potentially increase oxygen production. It should be noted that the regulation of liquid nitrogen purity requires the use of a liquid nitrogen regulating valve, and the lower tower liquid nitrogen reflux valve cannot be used. The reflux valve should be fully open under normal circumstances.

Special pressure-bearing equipment generally bears internal pressure, that will cause tensile stress inside the shell, which is called working stress. The working stress is directly proportional to the pressure and diameter, and inversely proportional to the vessel wall thickness. The axial stress is half of the circumferential stress. Therefore, for cylindrical vessels, the stress of longitudinal weld is twice that of girth weld. Because the geometric shape of the spherical shell is symmetrical to the spherical center, and the axial stress is equal to the circumferential stress in numerical value. Therefore, the wall thickness of the spherical vessel can be reduced by half as much as that of the cylindrical vessel under the same pressure and diameter.
