In fact, reflux ratio is a conventional saying. In practical calculation, it is divided into liquid gas ratio in distillation section and gas-liquid ratio in stripping section. The minimum reflux ratio is of course the same. When the number of trays and reflux ratio determine the purity of distillation products, the actual meaning is that the gas-liquid ratio of the stripping section and the number of trays in the stripping section determine the purity of high boiling point distillation products. The purity of low boiling point products is determined by the ratio of liquid to gas and the number of plates in the distillation section.

 

Now take the minimum gas-liquid ratio of the stripping section as an example to illustrate the calculation of the minimum reflux ratio. First, let's explain what the minimum gas-liquid ratio means. The first is infinite plate number, the second is pure high boiling point product, and the third is infinitesimal distillation driving force. It can be concluded from the above situation that the composition of the rising gas at the bottom of the stripping section is pure high boiling component without low boiling component, and the composition of the gas phase and liquid phase at the top of the stripping section is the composition of the distillation raw material and its equilibrium liquid phase.
