The deflagration of the oxygen compressor will cause great harm to the safe operation of the air separation equipment and the personal safety of the operators. Each air separation user should attach great importance to the safe operation of the oxygen compressor to prevent the occurrence of the deflagration accident.

 

The main reasons for deflagration of oxygen compressor are as follows:

1. The poor sealing performance of the sealing device of the oxygen compressor causes the piston rod to take the lubricating oil into the cylinder, and the lubricating oil entering the cylinder fully contacts with the pressure oxygen, which is the main hidden danger of the accident

2. During installation, parts contacting with oxygen are not cleaned and derusted thoroughly;

3. The air used for the oxygen compressor has not been put into use for a long time after the test run. Due to the high moisture content in the air, the local rust occurs in the cylinder;

4. Lax regulations of operating.

5. Alarm and interlock system failure

 

Measures to prevent deflagration accidents:

1. Strictly control the installation process and eliminate the potential safety hazards in the installation process in time;

2. Change the medium of test machine from wet air to dry nitrogen to ensure the safety of test machine;

3. Strengthen the local monitoring to ensure the sensitivity and reliability of each alarm and interlock device;

4. Let oil steam out to safety zone for venting

5. Put nitrogen fire extinguishing device into operation

6. Install fire wall between oxygen compressor system and air compressor system, electrical and cable trench;

7. Establish standard operation procedures, strengthen regular safety training for employees, and enhance safety awareness.

 

At present, the operation of piston type oxygen compressor can not reach the level of automatic operation realized by unmanned control beside the machine. Therefore, for the operation of oxygen compressor, it is necessary to strengthen the combination of routine inspection and online parameter monitoring. For the abnormal phenomena, such as the change of compression ratio, abnormal noise of the machine, high temperature rise, serious oil, etc., they should be found and eliminated in time. If necessary, they should be shut down immediately. With proper maintenance and measures, explosion accidents can be avoided.
