Small air separation unit so that the heat from the hot fluid to the cold fluid air separation unit is called heat transfer equipment or heat exchanger.

The main heat exchangers in small air separation unit are: nitrogen water pre-cooler, switchable heat exchanger, main heat exchanger, condensing evaporator, subcooler, liquefier, gasifier, heater and air compressor cooler.

According to the principle of heat transfer can be divided into three categories and various types of characteristics are.

1, inter-wall: characterised by hot and cold fluids separated by heat transfer walls (tube walls or plate walls), which do not come into contact with each other during heat transfer, with heat being transferred from the hot fluid to the cold fluid through the walls.

2, thermal storage type: characterised by alternating hot and cold fluids passing through a solid thermal storage body with sufficient heat capacity, the thermal storage body absorbs heat when the hot fluid flows through and releases heat when the cold fluid flows through.

3, mixed type: characterised by the heat exchange between the hot and cold fluids is achieved in the process of direct mixing, accompanied by the exchange of substances in the heat exchange process.
