According to the laws of thermodynamics, heat can only be transferred spontaneously from a high temperature object to a low temperature object, while the inverse process cannot take place spontaneously. A temperature lower than the ambient temperature cannot be produced without special methods. Methods of obtaining low temperatures have been mastered through practice. The process of obtaining a low temperature by compressing and then expanding a gas through the consumption of work is called refrigeration. The machine that obtains the low temperature is called a "refrigerator". A typical refrigeration machine can only produce a low temperature of a few tens of degrees below zero and is often referred to as ordinary refrigeration. Such as refrigerators, air conditioning units, etc.

 

In the large air separation plants, the operation of the need for -100 ℃ below the low temperature, known as deep freezing, referred to as "deep cooling", large air separation plants is through the compression cycle of deep freezing method to turn the air into a liquid, and then after the distillation of the liquid air from the gradual separation of the production of oxygen, nitrogen and argon and other inert large air separation plants.
