Answer: because the torque of asynchronous motor is proportional to the square of voltage, if centrifugal compressor is driven by asynchronous motor, the decrease of grid voltage will cause the decrease of motor speed, thus, the rotation speed of the compressor decreases accordingly, and the position of the performance curve of the compressor also changes accordingly. Figure 95 shows different speeds (n1If centrifugal compressor is driven by synchronous motor, because the motor itself has a set of compensation device to increase current, the decrease of grid voltage will not affect the rotation speed of compressor within a certain range. However, when the voltage drop exceeds the allowable value, the motor will not work, causing the compressor to stop.
