From the distribution of argon in the upper tower, it can be seen that part of the argon enrichment zone is in the distillation section and part is in the extraction section. The gas phase argon concentration in the rich argon region of the general distillation section is higher than that in the rich argon region of the distillation section, and the entire rich argon region of the distillation section contains three components: oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. However, the lower part of the rich argon region of the distillation section only contains two components: oxygen and argon. Therefore, the argon fraction extraction port should be located in the lower rich argon region.

Because the boiling points of oxygen and argon are relatively close, the separation is difficult. In order to ensure the purity of oxygen, the separation of oxygen in the distillation section is not clean, and argon escapes with oxygen and nitrogen. If high purity nitrogen is to be obtained, argon will condense with oxygen in the distillation section, which will affect the purity of oxygen. In order to ensure the purity of oxygen and obtain high purity nitrogen, it is necessary to extract part of the gas with high argon concentration in the distillation section.
