The cooling of piston compressor includes cylinder cooling, interstage cooling and cooling after final exhaust. Generally, there are two cooling modes: air cooling and water cooling.

The piston compressors used in the air separation unit are all water-cooled, and there are three types of system layout: series, parallel and hybrid. The tandem cooling system is simple, but the cooling effect becomes worse when the number of stages is large, and it is only suitable for two-stage compression. The parallel type can conveniently adjust the water volume of each part, and is suitable for multi-stage compression. The hybrid type has the common advantages of series and parallel, and is not limited by the number of stages.
